It is also the ninth consecutive year that Open Doors has reportedan
increase in the total number of Chinese students studying in U.S.
highereducation institutions, which has been growing at an average rate
of 16.5percent since 2005. There are 40percent more international
students studying at U.S. colleges and universitiesthan there were a
decade ago, and the rate of enrollment has risen steadily forthe past
three years. A similar increasein the number of “new” international
students, those enrolling for the firsttime at a U.S. college or
university in Fall 2013, indicates that this growthtrend continues. New
enrollments in 2013 were up 10 percent from the prior year, following a
seven percent increase in 2011/12. Despite the increases in recentyears,
international students still make up slightly fewer than four percent
ofthe 21 million students enrolled at the graduate and undergraduate
levels inthe United States。
